Thursday seems to be the day for art here.
Rubin Center is having a really important lecture by Argentine artist Fernando Traverso. He is speaking in conjunction with the show “Disappeared” which is opening on June 18th. Traverso worked during the dark days of Argenitina’s dirty war in the 70’s, and memorialized tghe disappeard by making images of bicycles, whose appearance left against walls were good indications that their owner had been “disappeared”. The free lecture is at noon this Thurday at the Rubin Center.
My personal interest in this is that a long time ago I worked with a woman who was in self-exile from Argentina due to that war. I learned recently she is back in that country, and living happily, but this is something one never really forgets. This lecture is the first in a series of summer long events on the subject which will take place throughout El Paso and, I believe, Juarez.
Galleria 300 is having an opening reception for Juntos Art Association from 5:30-7:30 pm. The gallery is at 300 Main Street ste 810
That’s what I have at the moment. Keep your Thursday open.-david sokolec
