The other day the former director of CONUCULTA (Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes), Sergio Vela, was ousted, and replaced by Consuelo Saizar.
You might be asking yourself what this has to do with El Paso and Juarez. A good bit actually. The arts in Mexico, unlike the US, but like the majority of other countries in the world is very centralized. All of the museums are ultimately under the auspices of the Federal government. Since this includes INBA in Juarez, and since El Paso Museum of Art has been significantly increasing its ties and fostering exchanges with Mexico, this does affect us here. Whether it will make any difference in operations is, of course, unknown, but it is definitely worth noting.-david sokolec
