Celina Garza is having a large opening tomorrow night at Chama Lounge from 6-9. Garza.who currently lives in El Paso, was born in Monterrey, Mexico where she studied fashion. Interestingly her paintings, instantly appealing from what I have seen, though somewhat representational seem as influenced by graphic considerations as by representation, and while they are painted on canvas, many seem to be as suitable for a silk or in some cases batik background.
She has had a few of her paintings already up at the lounge, and the colors though intense are also muted in a way one expects, from say a background of fabric. It should be interesting to see a larger selection, and music will be provided by “Soul Avenue” so it should be fun. If you can’t make it the show will be up through October.
